Shintaro Ohata is an artist who depicts little things in everyday life like scenes of a movie and captures all sorts of light in his work with a unique touch: convenience stores at night, city roads on rainy day and fast-food shops at dawn etc. His paintings show us ordinary sceneries as dramas. He is also known for his characteristic style; placing sculptures in front of paintings, and shows them as one work, a combination of 2-D and 3-D world. He says that it all started from when he wondered “I could bring the atmosphere or dynamism of my paintings with a more different way if I place sculptures in front of paintings”. Many viewers tend to assume that there is a light source set into his work itself because of the strong expression of lights in his sculpture.

“A young woman was restrained, force-fed and injected with cosmetics in a high street shop window as part of a hard-hitting protest against animal testing.

Jacqueline Traide was tortured in front of hundreds of horrified shoppers in a bid to raise awareness and end the practise.

The 24-year-old endured 10 hours of experiments, which included having her hair shaved and irritants squirted in her eyes, as part of a worldwide campaign by Lush Cosmetics and The Humane Society.

The disturbing stunt took place in Lush’s Regent Street store, one of the UK’s busiest shopping streets.

Jacqueline appeared genuinely terrified as she was pinned down on a bench and had her mouth stretched open with two metal hooks while a man in a white coat force-fed her until she choked and gagged.

The artist was also injected with numerous needles, had her skin braised and lotions and creams smeared across her face.

Passers-by were gobsmacked to see Jacqueline, a social sculpture student at Oxford Brookes University, forced to have a section of her head shaved.

The gruesome spectacle aimed to highlight the cruelty inflicted on animals during cosmetic laboratory tests and raise awareness that animal testing is still a common practise.

The Humane Society International and Lush Cosmetics have joined forces to launch the largest-ever global campaign to end animal testing for cosmetics.

The campaign, launched to coincide with World Week for Animals in Laboratories, is being rolled out simultaneously in over 700 Lush Ltd shops across forty-seven countries including the United States, Canada, India, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea and Russia.

Lush campaign manager Tamsin Omond said: “The ironic thing is that if it was a beagle in the window and we were doing all these things to it, we’d have the police and RSPCA here in minutes.

“But somewhere in the world, this kind of thing is happening to an animal every few seconds on average.

“The difference is, it’s normally hidden. We need to remind people it is still going on.”

Wait what the fuck?! Is no one going to talk about how they literally restrained and tortured a woman for 10 hours to make their point? I’m all against animal testing but literally treating women like animals and violently making a spectacle out of it is counterintuitive, misogynistic, hypocritical, and really undermines their cause.

Cop Sexually Assaults Woman Then Arresting Her For Protesting

As if that wasn’t enough for them, they sent her child to protective services and put the mother in jail for “making false allegations against a police officer”, which is actually not a crime. Now that it’s been revealed she was telling the truth, not only is the cop fired, but even the judge who sat there and let it happen is under investigation.

I can’t believe the judge just fucking sat there and played with the woman’s child. She should be fucking fired too.

I was kind of iffy on reblogging this because it’s very disturbing, but I think it’s important. Notice how she was bullied to the point of recanting her story, because she knew if she was arrested her daughter would be taken from her. That’s important. This kind of thing happens to women a lot, where a lot of women stay silent because they know if they speak up about the harassment they’ve faced their life will be made difficult or their safety (by extension, their family or children’s safety) will be threatened by those who would prefer they stay silent.

And here’s why I think The Doctor should be played by a man. Be gentle, I think i’ve laid out some valid reasons! X

someone left an ask in my box earlier about if I thought a lady Doctor would be a good idea and so far this is the only actual contribution to that debate that I’ve heard beyond “because (buck|preserve) the status quo!”

what? that still doesn’t really work, because it’s still no reason why the doctor can’t be a mother figure. you can literally just change every reference to dad, father, paternal to mom, mother, maternal and it would still work. since when is wistfully wishing for a family and wanting to save little girls (or little boys for that matter) limited to fathers? why can’t a female doctor be every archetype of mothers—the gentle, caring mother and the fierce lioness mother?

I find it hard to believe that he’s looking for a really solid, deadset reason that there should be a female doctor, but his only reason that there should be a male one is that he’s a “dad”—change that to “parental figure” and you don’t need a specifically male or female character. why do we ever need a specific reason for a female lead? the fact that people keep asking for explanations for a character’s femaleness is why the vast majority of leads are male in the first place, because male is default and female needs an argument, a rationalization. we need a female doctor just for the sake of a female doctor, just because the doctor can be female, so why not? and while the crux of my argument is that male and female characters can and should be interchangeable, and that the inherent maleness or femaleness of a character shouldn’t really be the defining point of their creation, I guess the better reason would be the progressiveness he mentioned. it’s not enough to have well-written female sidekicks (although that’d be much appreciated), but it’d send a really great message to little girls everywhere that you don’t have to be saved by dad all the time or be relegated to a “companion” for the protagonist, but that you, too, can be the hero in the oldest tv show in the world.

As a side note, I think this is the first time I’ve heard someone use “paternalistic” in a positive way. I usually hear people talk of paternalism in a patronizing, trying to save you when you don’t need it sort of situation. Saving little girls in a paternalistic way… doesn’t sound like a positive thing to me, but that’s a whole other issue.
